HIPO images over the years 6/20/2013 EWD

Here are descriptions of and credits for the pictures in this folder in chronological order.
There are enough images I broke them into date subdirectories.

   - Ralph Nye and Brian Taylor with HIPO after mounting to the 1.8-m Perkins telescope at
Lowell for its first time on sky.
   - R filter image of M27, a well-known planetary nebula. First-light HIPO image.

   - Ian McLean and George Brims preparing to mount FLITECAM on HIPO for the first time at
the 1.8-m Perkins telescope at Lowell.
   - The HIPO and FLITECAM teams, at the time, with the mounted instruments behind.

These line-ops provided data for a tremendous amount of TA work.
   - HIPO heading off to be installed on the airplane, such as it was at the time
   - Patrick Waddell (kneeling), John Wallace, Ralph Nye, Tom Bida, and Brian Taylor

Lab pictures from preparations for 2008 line-ops. These were the line-ops where we used
HIPO to tweak up the gyro alignment matrix so the (corrected) gyro axes and imager axes
are correctly oriented relative to the flange fiducial jig in HIPO that is in turn
precisely aligned to the SI mounting flange.
   - First image is the optical guts of HIPO. Beamsplitter to lower right, blue optics along
the top, red optics toward lower right.
   - Ted and Mitch (Alvin Mitchell, DAOF QA) doing an LN fill before things became so overblown.
   - Bob Meyer (then SOFIA Program Manager), Jon Morse (then HQ Astrophysics Division
Director), and two other people I don't recognize, in the lab during a VIP tour.

   - Peter Collins running HIPO on the line. Jürgen Wolf, Uli Lampater, and Andreus
     Reinacher on the right.
   - Same night. Uli, Andy, Franziska Harms, Sybil Adams, Randy Grashuis, Bob Thompson,
Tom Bida, Allan Meyer, and Ted.

   - Tom Bida, Mike Person, Ted, and Peter Collins at the rack
   - A whole crowd at a critical moment during the occultation
   - Ted and Mike talking to Rick Feinberg on the way back home.
   - Edna and Ted after the flight. Edna was hired by the late Dave Koch to run the
FOSTER outreach program for the KAO. Dave and Ted worked together on Kepler, and
Edna was a principal in the Kepler E/PO program as well. Note the "Love of Stars"
Kepler shirt I'm wearing and Edna's KAO shirt. Edna played a major role in the
SOFIA E/PO program as well. There are some deep roots in this program.

These show a couple of views of our crowd during the 2011 Pluto flight. In the
second picture you see, left to right, Mike Person with iPad, Pasquale, Walt in
the background, Tom Bida, Ted, and Peter Collins seated.

This is the cappuccino made by the waiter at a restaurant Mike took his girlfriend
to after the 2011 Pluto occultation. I had called Mike on his cell, fortunately
while his girlfriend was in the bathroom. Mike took the call and the waiter
scolded him for doing this on a date. Mike explained the details and the
his-and-hers cappuccinos resulted. As I write this Mike is on his honeymoon,
yes, with the woman in question. I guess NASA can still do something right!

I think these are all from October, 2011. In order these show:

FLITECAM about to be installed onto HIPO, which is already on the TAAS
